Word class healthcare facilities delivered at Concord Hospital
Concord Hospital Concord Nsw
The NSW Government's $341 million Concord Hospital has been serving the inner west communities of Sydney for over 75 years. For the eight-storey Clinical Services Building, Fredon was awarded with the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the electrical, HV and communications works by Roberts Co.
A well-established partnership
We have collaborated with Fredon and Pulvin on a multitude of lighting projects, and in 2020 Fredon approached us to help with the redevelopment of the hospital’s facilities.
As we had already worked with the team and successfully achieved Green Star compliance on previous lighting projects, they were confident we could meet the hospital’s social and environmental targets. They also knew we would complete the project within the required timeframe, adopting the same high level of sustainability as we had in previous projects.
Creating safe, healing environments through light
The first stage of the Concord Hospital upgrade included the delivery of the new Rusty Priest Centre for Rehabilitation and Aged Care and the comprehensive Cancer Care Centre. It also included the National Centre for Veterans' Healthcare - the first of its kind in Australia dedicated to supporting veterans’ wellness and welfare.
The health and well-being of patients, staff and visitors at these facilities are a top priority for the hospital. Lighting played an important role in creating a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for everyone.
A stringent selection criteria
As well as the ability to deliver on time and within budget, the requirements for selection for this project included:
As part of the final redevelopment, we supplied luminaires throughout, with prominent placement through the cancer centre and office spaces in the health facility. As well as providing the lights, we also managed the entire process – collaborating with electrical engineers, contractors, builders and stakeholders.
Supporting patients and clinicians
During the development of this 44,000m2 state-of-the-art facility, we installed over 1,500 COI compliant LED luminaires. These lights help with patient treatment and clinical observation as COI compliant lighting allows clinicians to detect cyanosis – a bluish-purple tint to the skin.
The result
Our lighting solutions improved wellbeing for people using the space through intelligently designed lighting solutions that respond to people’s needs. Our high-performing lights also created value through savings from more efficient power consumption, as well as improved appearance and compliance with building standards.
"Trend Lighting and Fredon were able to facilitate the delivery of luminaires for the project during the pandemic when they were needed."
